Here at Deaf Dog Designs we suffer from an insatiable fascination with the relationship between acoustic and electrical energy and their effects on human emotion, the world we live in and life in general. Animals, aside from the obvious hearing acuity, are significantly more aware of their aural surroundings than humans and therefore play an important role in the research conducted here at Deaf Dog. Our understanding and love for our pets runs much deeper than simply naming our products after the special ones, they are our test equipment, our inspiration, and our most critical listeners.

So, what exactly has our research here uncovered that makes Rufio run straight to the speaker instead of me when I'm testing a mic pre, or causes Fritz to wake up from his cat nap during a filter sweep before the db meter even registers or anyone in the room can hear it?

We are simply creating the finest, most accurate preamplifiers ever built.

Without giving away too many of our secrets, here's how we do it:

Very simply:

Painstakingly meticulous point to point hand wiring, the highest quality military spec components available, carefully matched ultra-high quality vacuum tubes (and FETS), dual Jensen transformers, and a fanatical devotion to good music.

Now here's the real story...

Theory...

The humble TRANSDUCER exists in a myriad of forms, from microphones, guitar strings, and coils of wire around magnets to vibrating piezoelectric crystals, and speakers. It is the device responsible for converting an acoustic phenomenon existing in the natural world to an electrical impulse that humans can manipulate with technology.

The PREAMPLIFIER is the electronic device responsible for taking this vast array of different types of electrical impulses and converting them into a standard format that every other electronic device in existence can utilize in the exact same way.

A theoretically perfect preamplifier would be able to accept any form of electrical energy at its input and make it a reference standard (+4db, or 1.23v ac rms) through (at the very least) the entire human hearing range (20hz to 20,000hz) without altering the waveform of the signal in any way (zero distortion).

The PREAMPLIFIER obviously was one of the first electronic devices invented, it exists in it's original form to this day, it is the fundamental building block of every electronic device in operation, as technology progresses it has been dramatically improved upon, however it has yet to be perfected. To electronics geeks and technicians and audiophiles especially the perfect pre amp is nothing less than THE HOLY GRAIL.
